Gender and Cultural Diversity

Issues of gender and of race and cultural diversity in twentieth century Britain are raised in the archive film and television collections through material showing, for example, the staging of cultural events, the changing face of Britain's minority communities, the role of women and of the Commonwealth in the First and Second World Wars, attitudes towards women and fashion, the history of the suffragette movement, feminism and the representation of race. The archive collections also contain important examples of material made by women film-makers and by black and ethnic minority film-makers and groups.
