Access and Facilities:

The Yorkshire Film Archive is an active regional resource with an ever-growing collection.

The Yorkshire Film Archive collection is comprised of over fourteen thousand reels of film, hundreds of video tapes as well as growing collections of new digital media. The collection includes material covering issues of national and regional significance as well as featuring everyday life, work and leisure in Yorkshire. Most of the collection is non-fiction film and video, with subjects ranging from agriculture to industry, from family life and education through to social issues and travel.

  • Searching – The Archive's offices at York St John University College provides access to viewing copies of its collection and a detailed database of its catalogued holdings. The Yorkshire Film Archive database online gives you access to information about a selection of the catalogued films. This selection is constantly growing so do please contact the Archive if you cannot find what you are looking for.
  • Viewing - To view a film from the online database please contact the archive to arrange an appointment. Due to the fragile nature of some of the originals, it is not always possible to provide immediate access to viewing copies.
  • Charges –Nominal charges may be incurred where copying and or postage are required. Please contact the Archive for details.
