Wessex Film and Sound Archive houses film covering many local and regional celebrations of royal events. These include local celebrations of the 1937 and 1953 Coronations, the Silver Jubilee of King George V, Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in 1977, the Festival of Britain in 1950, visits by King George V in 1912 and Prince Edward in 1926 amongst others. One example depicting a royal visit in the region is this film made by members of an amateur film society, part of the Winchester Photographic Society. The film stands out as a very good example of a royal visit film and as a local event. The group followed the Queen's day long visit which took in many different locations in Winchester and involved them posting several film-makers at different points of the town, along with quick changes of locations in order to keep up with the events. The film shows images of the people lining the streets waving hats, parades, groups of people eagerly awaiting the arrival, the Queen greeting local dignitaries and visiting sites around Winchester. The archive continues to update its collection by commissioning videos of events in the region such as the recent millennium and Golden Jubilee celebrations in the region.
