The Archive

A film archive for Wales – the Wales Film and Television Archive, was first established in Aberystwyth in1992 following a two year pilot project. In 1997 Sgrîn – Media Agency for Wales, became the Archive’s governing body, taking over from the now defunct Wales Film Council. In 2001 the Wales Film and Television Archive merged with the Sound and Moving Image Collection of the National Library of Wales to form the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, becoming part of the National Library although continuing to receive funding from Sgrin. The aim of the archive is to preserve, promote and celebrate the sound and moving image heritage of Wales.
The NSSAW's headquarters is at the National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth, with two of its staff working from an office in Cardiff.
