Access and Facilities:

  • Searching - The archive has a searchable online catalogue available on its website which includes full descriptions and shot listing for all accessible archive material. Academic users can also contact the archive by post, fax or via e-mail with their request. The archive staff can search the catalogue database on behalf of users making research requests and can provide printouts of relevant catalogue entries.

  • Viewing - Currently over 2000 items in the collection are available for users to view and researchers can make appointments to view accessible material at the archive's premises. The facilities are available by appointment only, please contact the archive for further details. Viewing copies can also be requeted from the archive, details of charges for processing and usage are available upon request. In addition, the archive has a selection of its titles available for purchase covering a variety of subjects. Researchers should contact the archive directly regarding access to the related collections of written, printed and photographic material in the archive.

  • Exhibitions and related museum displays - Selections of the archive's collections can be seen at a number of museums and exhibitions across Scotland. Key exhibitions include The Museum of Transport in Glasgow, which has a permanent exhibition on the history of ship building in the area and includes a selection of archive film relating to the subject. The Museum of Dundee displays a selection of archive film on jute manufacture and the archive has also worked collaboratively with museums on subjects such as regional railway exhibitions and the fishing industry in Scotland.
