This film is part of a large collection held in the North West Film Archive by keen Salford-based amateur film-maker Ralph Brookes. His collection of films date from the 1950s to 1970s, and many of the films are of local scenes and family events in colour. This film is of scenes of a traditional family Christmas at the Russ family household in 1966. A group of children, parents and grandparents open their presents in a living room. Other local scenes filmed by Ralph Brookes include 1968-69 footage featuring children building a bonfire at Ordsall and 1966 scenes from Blackpool on the Promenade. Many films in the archive’s collection have been donated by individual film-makers and members of amateur cine societies around the region. Amateur film-makers often recorded their own domestic scenes, family experiences, holidays and events such as weddings and birthdays. Many also recorded local events such as carnivals, outings and civic ceremonies. |
