This 1966 amateur film shows scenes of a family on a day out in Blackpool. The film includes scenes of children and a baby on the Promenade, standing by a 'lost children' bus, on the crowded beach, visiting a lifeboat station and enjoying rides at a funfair. This amateur film is part of a large collection held in the North West Film Archive made by the Salford based amateur film-maker Ralph Brookes. His collection of films date from the 1950s to 1970s, and many of the films show local scenes or family events in colour. Other films in his collection include a traditional family Christmas in 'Christmas at Marlene's' (1966) and scenes of children building a bonfire at Ordsall in 1969. Brookes' film of Blackpool scenes is also one of a large collection of both amateur and professional films in the archive that feature this popular North West seaside resort. The collection includes films such as 'A Holiday in Blackpool' (1934) which was made by the LMS Railway to promote rail travel to enjoy the resort's amenities and attractions. Other amateur films made in Blackpool include many holiday films as well as an amusing short fiction film by Salford Cine Society, entitled 'Easy Come' (1933), where a woman dreams that her family wins a competition and go on a trip Blackpool. |
