The archive works with many record offices, museums libraries and archives in the Northern region including the Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office and the Dock Museum at Barrow-in-Furness which has deposited archive film with the NRFTA on the ship building heritage of the area. The archive has strong links with the Newcastle Discovery Museum and Tyne and Wear Archives Service. The archive also recently worked with the Stephenson Railway Museum at North Shields in their use of film as a reference in the restoration of their railway artefacts.

The Northern Region Film and Television Archive is also currently involved in the project ‘Tomorrow’s History’ which is a major two-year project run by The North East Museums Libraries & Archives Council (NEMLAC), and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project will produce a web-based regional heritage resource for the North East of England. The project is working with libraries, museums, archives and record offices to digitise and improve access to local studies resources including some footage from the Northern Region Film and Television Archive.
