This two-reel travelogue on the history, culture and industry of the Tyne Valley was narrated by the South Shields born actress Flora Robson. It contrasts the Roman heritage and rural economy of the western settlements including Hexham and Corbridge with scenes of life and work in the Newcastle/Gateshead conurbation. Finally the industrial settlements between Newcastle and the coast are discussed, with a particular emphasis on the shipbuilding industry. Many other examples of films on the industrial heritage of the region, and ship building in particular, can be found in the Northern Region Film and Television Archive, including for example, Vicker's 'Future Craftsmen' from 1972.
