Ringtons Tea is a Newcastle based family firm that has been in business in the area since 1907. This advertisement follows the production process from the shipment of tea arriving at the Quayside on the Tyne, through shots of the packing floor using "up to date machines" to the door to door delivery of the tea using horse drawn carts. The film was narrated by Alan Howland who went on to become a well known commentator on national newsreels, and this film may be one of the oldest surviving commercials using sound in Britain. The Northern Region Film and Television Archive holds a number of advertising and promotional films in its collection, including 'Eldorado Ice Cream Commercial' from 1938 and an advert for cine cameras by Bell and Howell entitled 'Movies For You' from 1955. |
