The Archive

The Imperial War Museum was established in 1917, with the intention of preserving the memory of the British Empire's contribution and sacrifices in the First World War. The film and video archive within the museum now covers moving images of conflicts, especially those involving Britain and the Commonwealth, from the First World War to the present day. The Imperial War Museum Film and Video Archive seeks to provide for, and to encourage, the study and understanding of the history of modern war and 'war-time experience.'
