'Queen of He(a)rts' is a cinema documentary very much of its time, looking at industries, places and people of the county of Hertfordshire made by Widgey and Joan Newman with a commentary that is, at times, humorous. There are sequences of local industry, canal boats, land army girls, and much local history. This clip shows the local watercress growing industry, which was flourishing in Hertfordshire at this time. The East Anglian Film Archive holds many other documentary and educational films featuring the agricultural and rural heritage of the region. Other examples include Widgey Newman's 'Charted Waters' (1944) which illustrates eel trapping and basket weaving, and the more serious documentary style films of Mary Field who recorded changes in the seasons in the farming year in 1934/5 in Suffolk and presented the material for classroom use.
