The East Anglian Film Archive has a number of films which were made to promote the region as a tourist destination, including items on the Norfolk Broads and the seaside destinations of Clacton-on-Sea, Cromer, Great Yarmouth, and Southend-on-Sea. The earliest such film in the archive dates from 1923 showing scenes and popular attractions of Great Yarmouth, other tourist promotional films include 'Back to the Sun at Clacton-on-Sea' (1952) and 'Light on East Anglia' (1966) by the British Travel Association. 'Best Place Under the Sun', promotes the coastal town of Southend-on-Sea, showing all the delights that this seaside resort had to offer in the early 1950s. Southend had publicity films made before the war, but this, made in the Coronation year, was the first to be produced in colour and sound. The film shows the town, the beach, amusements and rides, relaxation places, the 'Miss Lovely' competition, and Southend's famous pier, with its electric railway and boating excursions.
