'To Build an Island's Future' was commissioned by Brush Bagnall Traction, an engineering company which manufactured locomotive engines in Loughborough and sold around the commonwealth. Their film documents the sale of their diesel engine trains to Sri Lanka As a 'colonial' film, it shows the Queen's visit to Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon), and describes the achievements of the company in bringing the railways to the country, declaring that the trains, "make their contribution to the progress of Ceylon". Scenes depict trains travelling through the tropical forests, hills and fields of Sri Lanka, work inside the factory including the construction process and trains being tested on a special test track at Loughborough. The Media Archive for Central England holds a number of films that illustrate the industrial and corporate heritage of the Midlands region. These include several films made by divisions of the Co-operative Movement including the training film 'Co-operation' filmed in 1972. The archive also has several other television and film items that highlight the history of transport and manufacturing in the region.
